The Object of Rotary
The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:
FIRST. The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;
Second. High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as an opportunity to serve society;
THIRD. The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal business, and community life;
FOURTH. The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
The Four Way Test
Of the things we think say, or do
1) Is it the TRUTH?
2) Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3) Will it bring GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4) Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

President's Message
The Haverhill Rotary Sign is up!!
Pictured below is our own Greg DiBurro actually installing the Haverhill Rotary Sign after last week's meeting. So many of our Rotarians do so much behind the scenes! Please remember to say "thank you" to Greg when you see him.
Wow, you can always tell when I take cold medicine and last week's meeting certainly proved it again! Please accept my apologies for not being "up to par" as our golfers would say. I want to thank Darlene Beal for a very informative and educational presentation last week regarding her recent Rotaplast mission to Kanyakumari, India. I was very surprised to hear that in India, physicians actually own the hospitals and was truly impressed that the owners of Richardson"s Hospital, Dr. Sunil Richardson and Dr. Shweta Richards, provided not only the facility but also all related needs. Dr. Richardson is actually a Rotarian who was committed to bringing Rotaplast to his area. In addition to helping children with cleft lip and palate, they also worked on many people seeking help for burns caused by various means, including abuse. The various pictures that Darlene took certainly demonstrated the dramatic need for high quality surgical teams being provided to developing countries by Rotary International. Darlene has gone on many missions and truly exemplifies Service Above Self.
IMPORTANT Rotary Grant Awards presentation is scheduled for our luncheon on June 7, 2012. Please do your best to attend as we want to take a picture of all grant recipients to be placed in the local newspapers.
Have you taken a moment to look at our new Haverhill Rotary web page? Looks absolutely amazing and Greg Stark's team deserves a very special thank you! The web page update has been discussed for many years, but this team made it happen! A special "thank you" to Tim Coco and the Coco & Co staff for working diligently in getting the web page completed in a timely fashion.
ROTARY TRIVIA:
Question: Since 1985, eradicating Polio has been Rotary's top priority. Recently there have been polio outbreaks in two countries due to importation from Pakistan and Nigeria which have highlighted the continued threat of resurgence. Failure to eradicate the disease could lead within a decade to paralysis of as many as 200,000 children per year worldwide. What are the names of the two countries?
Answer: China and West Africa
KEN'S TRIVIA (2 parts):
In 1948, what was the club that sponsored a radio show and came up with the idea of the "Jimmy Fund"? The club organized a radio broadcast from the bedside of a young cancer patient dubbed Jimmy as he was visited by members of the Boston Braves baseball team.
What was the name of the Publicity Director of the Boston Braves during 1948?
All right everyone; I was able to find the answers so I'm sure you'll also have them!
The "ACE OF CLUBS" is now up to a grand total of $1,087. That can certainly buy a lot of Red Sox tickets!
